The Unhappy Mundys are Ann and Tim Mundy, singers and multi-instrumentalists from North Staffordshire. They are both from the North originally; Ann from Yorkshire, and Tim from Saddleworth, which is sometimes in Lancashire and sometimes not. Best not to mention Roses, just in case …
They play a wide range of music; they claim to specialise in miserable songs by dead songwriters, but it’s more complicated than that; the odd joyful dance tune might creep in, on flute or mandolin, and some comic songs have appeared from time to time. There’s even a chance of a miserable song by a living songwriter, including Ann and Tim themselves.
Their music choices range from contemporary singer/songwriter material through to traditional tunes and songs, with a healthy dollop of Americana in between. They sing songs they love, and even if you haven’t heard them before, there’s a good chance you’ll be humming them on the way home.
They’ve been married almost 50 years, and the general air of folky doom is lightened by some good stories and the chance of a mild ‘domestic’ on stage when somebody sets off in the wrong key!
