Exhibition of Poems and Art in Alcoutim
From October 3-29 2024 the Carlos Brito library hosted a joint exhibition in celebration of international creativity along the Guadiana. 17 poems in four languages were accompanied by artwork from students of the Universidade de Tempos Livres, in Vila Real de San Antonio.
Alcoutim has a strong connection to poetry and the arts.
In early spring 2024, local residents were asked to contribute to an international poetry competition and the response was enthusiastic!
17 poems in Portuguese, 4 in Spanish, 10 in English and one in Irish were submitted to the poetry competition. The theme was ’Connection across the 2 banks of the Guadiana’ and it inspired work reflecting love, suffering, worry and deep longings.
These were performed with passion and style at the Casa dos Condes in the Library Carlos Brito in Alcoutim to a large and appreciative audience.
