Exhibition of Poems and Art in Alcoutim

From October 3-29, the Carlos Brito library is hosting a joint exhibition in celebration of international creativity along the Guadiana. 17 poems in four languages are accompanied by artwork from students of the Universidade de Tempos Livres, in Vila Real de San Antonio.

On the occasion of the festival from October 3rd to 29th, 2024 there is in the library ‘Carlos Brito’ in Alcoutim an exhibition of poetry and art from both banks of the river, as well as works by students from the Universidade de Tempos Livres de Vila Real d.S.A..

Alcoutim has a strong connection to poetry and the arts.

In early spring this year, local residents were asked to contribute to an international poetry competition and the response was enthusiastic!

17 poems in Portuguese, 4 in Spanish, 10 in English and one in Irish were submitted to the poetry competition. The theme was ’Connection across the 2 banks of the Guadiana’ and it inspired work reflecting love, suffering, worry and deep longings.

These were performed with passion and style at the Casa dos Condes in the Library Carlos Brito in Alcoutim to a large and appreciative audience.

A selection of those poems and artwork from local artists and students from the de Tempos Livres in Vila Real de Santo Antônio in a combined celebration of musical and artistic talent for the tenth Guadiana International Music Festival.

Thanks for the hard work in curating the art and the poetry goes to Cristina Ahrens, head of the library.

Thanks also goes to Carola Sprengel as co-organiser for the poetry competition.

None of this could have happened without the enormous support of the Camara Municipal of Alcoutim, for which we are very grateful. Thank you.
